I went right to work punching papers and playing around with it…. } {I found a WAY FREEKIN COOL new set of embossing folders and a die for the Cuttlebug – Build a Flower} {I GOT TO PLAY} Tuesday night I was up late finishing this “Family Favorites” Cook book project for my new sister in law, Jill, (Brent’s brother, Jared, is getting hitched!) and made quite the mess! A few years back I started making this cookbook for some family and friends’ bridal showers and weddings. I made one for myself ages ago and it’s come in quite handy when budgeting for groceries, staying on budget, and planning meals. I think I have shared this idea of the cookbook (my original is way uglier… lol… and I’m gonna re do it and make MINE cute…) but I don’t think I have shared it on the blog… this one’s a new version of it and I think it’s way cuter!! You know sometimes when you’re asked, “what’s for dinner?” and you get stumped…. You’ve had tacos twice this week, spaghetti three times last week, and grilled cheese or mac n’ yac several times this week…. OK, Ok, maybe YOU don’t have these issues, but I sure do. LOL! Happy Friday!!! Mini Calendar Art Share
This is the project from the sneak peek I posted yesterday. I am still searching for the perfect photo of Brent and Sadie to put on the inside left page above the paper strips and then it will be finished. I am thinking that I might have to hope for some nice weather tomorrow and take a photo of my two favorite people together. 🙂 Had some time to create while resting up and I made this little mini calendar using a free downloadable program from www.red-castle.com. The download took a few seconds and I opened the program and played around a bit to figure out the dimensions that I wanted for my calendar and then printed and cut out the calendar pages. I started with March 2008 and it goes through March of 2009. I just LOVE this paper from Crate Paper and have another monogram project that I am working on to share later. It seems that I can’t get enough of rhinestones, either… hehe! I love altering things and I love working in our woodshop. This weekend Brent and I spent all day Saturday working on InkStaks & RibbonStaks. We had a variety of 10 to build just on Saturday and it was a super long day. We left the woodshop at 11:15 pm and were just exhausted. While Brent was working on parts of the Staks that require no help from me, I played around with some tools and scraps in the shop. I don’t normally wear jewelry in the shop, but we had a baptism to attend in the middle of it all and I didn’t take off the necklace when I changed back into my grubbies. LOL! {Love U} Wood BlockThis project is made from a 7.25″x5.5″ piece of scrap pine which I drilled a 2 1/8″ hole in with the drill press. I also drilled out a 1 7/8″ circle from scrap hardboard to “fill the hole”. It stands on a flat surface propped up by a peg (cut off dowel) inserted into a hole I drilled in the back. I painted the wood black with acrylic paint from Apple Barrel and let it dry thoroughly. I cut a heart from scrap paper (fold in half then cut) and then opened the heart and traced onto solid Red Archivers brand cardstock. I pulled out my Modge Podge (glossy) and slathered up the back of the heart and stuck it to the painted wood. I let that dry for a few minutes to hold the heart in place and then rubbed {love} with American Crafts rub ons. Then I slathered the whole thing up with Modge Podge and worked out the bubbles. (When working with Modge Podge, sometimes you have to gently rub out bubbles when paper gets a little too wet.) I let the whole thing dry for about 15-20 minutes and then pulled out my collection of silver metal embellishments and went to town hammering in these conchos and eyelets (CTMH, Making Memories) into the paper and wood. The “U” circle is made by covering the 1 7/8″ hardboard circle with white cardstock, then adding glitter and slathering the edges with Crystal Effects and sprinkling on Beadazzles beads and glitter. I cut out a small U to fit the circle and used a bit of magic to float the circle in the hole. Inky Smiles!
Let’s Get Together Recipe Tin (posted AGES ago on CTMH boards)
I wanted to get something new and fun up here on the blog this weekend, but we had a variety of 10 different InkStaks to build this weekend and I just didn’t have time to finish my idea (YET). Anyway, over the past couple of months I have received several email requests for a pic of this tin that I made waaaaaaaaaaay back in June/July and showed very briefly on the CTMH BB’s. (The original post dissappeared because when I resigned from CTMH, they deactivated my account and all posts associated with my account went to web post Heaven…. or wherever old web posts go when they die.) I thought I had posted it here on the blog, but I guess I never did… So, here’s a photo of the Let’s Get Together lunch tin. Papers, inks, stamps are CTMH. Ribbons are CTMH, American Crafts & Offray. Buttons and other embellishments are from various vendors. I stamped flowers on acetate in versamark ink and then sprinkled white embossing powder on the inked images, heated, cooled, and carefully cut out the flowers. I don’t have a pattern for the top of the tin. I carefully traced it onto scrap paper and made my own template that way. I made a very basic “measurement conversion chart” which I adhered to the inside of the tin lid and the recipe cards are from a CTMH kit. This was a LOT of fun to make!!! Stay tuned… I’m working on a fun Valentine’s Day project today that involves a drill press in the wood shop, paint, paper, beads, etc. I am covered in paint and I think it’s gonna be fun!
