I love altering things and I love working in our woodshop. This weekend Brent and I spent all day Saturday working on InkStaks & RibbonStaks. We had a variety of 10 to build just on Saturday and it was a super long day. We left the woodshop at 11:15 pm and were just exhausted. While Brent was working on parts of the Staks that require no help from me, I played around with some tools and scraps in the shop. I don’t normally wear jewelry in the shop, but we had a baptism to attend in the middle of it all and I didn’t take off the necklace when I changed back into my grubbies. LOL! {Love U} Wood BlockThis project is made from a 7.25″x5.5″ piece of scrap pine which I drilled a 2 1/8″ hole in with the drill press. I also drilled out a 1 7/8″ circle from scrap hardboard to “fill the hole”. It stands on a flat surface propped up by a peg (cut off dowel) inserted into a hole I drilled in the back. I painted the wood black with acrylic paint from Apple Barrel and let it dry thoroughly. I cut a heart from scrap paper (fold in half then cut) and then opened the heart and traced onto solid Red Archivers brand cardstock. I pulled out my Modge Podge (glossy) and slathered up the back of the heart and stuck it to the painted wood. I let that dry for a few minutes to hold the heart in place and then rubbed {love} with American Crafts rub ons. Then I slathered the whole thing up with Modge Podge and worked out the bubbles. (When working with Modge Podge, sometimes you have to gently rub out bubbles when paper gets a little too wet.) I let the whole thing dry for about 15-20 minutes and then pulled out my collection of silver metal embellishments and went to town hammering in these conchos and eyelets (CTMH, Making Memories) into the paper and wood. The “U” circle is made by covering the 1 7/8″ hardboard circle with white cardstock, then adding glitter and slathering the edges with Crystal Effects and sprinkling on Beadazzles beads and glitter. I cut out a small U to fit the circle and used a bit of magic to float the circle in the hole. Inky Smiles!

Let’s Get Together Recipe Tin (posted AGES ago on CTMH boards)
I wanted to get something new and fun up here on the blog this weekend, but we had a variety of 10 different InkStaks to build this weekend and I just didn’t have time to finish my idea (YET). Anyway, over the past couple of months I have received several email requests for a pic of this tin that I made waaaaaaaaaaay back in June/July and showed very briefly on the CTMH BB’s. (The original post dissappeared because when I resigned from CTMH, they deactivated my account and all posts associated with my account went to web post Heaven…. or wherever old web posts go when they die.) I thought I had posted it here on the blog, but I guess I never did… So, here’s a photo of the Let’s Get Together lunch tin. Papers, inks, stamps are CTMH. Ribbons are CTMH, American Crafts & Offray. Buttons and other embellishments are from various vendors. I stamped flowers on acetate in versamark ink and then sprinkled white embossing powder on the inked images, heated, cooled, and carefully cut out the flowers. I don’t have a pattern for the top of the tin. I carefully traced it onto scrap paper and made my own template that way. I made a very basic “measurement conversion chart” which I adhered to the inside of the tin lid and the recipe cards are from a CTMH kit. This was a LOT of fun to make!!! Stay tuned… I’m working on a fun Valentine’s Day project today that involves a drill press in the wood shop, paint, paper, beads, etc. I am covered in paint and I think it’s gonna be fun! Merry Christmas – Christmas Tree Chipboard Book
Merry Christmas Everyone! I am on the road for Christmas… visiting family in Iowa. We got my parents here safely after a long two days of driving across Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska and half of Iowa. I’m a little late posting this fun project because I’ve been so busy getting ready for Christmas ( and playing with the neice and nephews), but I’ve been dying to share it with you all. This project was something I was dreaming up after I made my Mummy Book for Halloween. I wanted to make something fun and fabulously Christmasy… and I had this fun idea, but wasn’t sure if it would work (see last Thursday’s TFT) and out of the ordinary.. at least *I* think it’s out of the ordinary.. It’s definitely out of my box and a little wonky and I love it! (Thank you Alisha Trussell for the idea to string the beads on wire!!) Merry Christmas friends! Please email your address to me at inkysmiles @ gmail.com And…. as requested by Tilda…. here’s my recipe: The most fabulous Sausage Cheese Balls(A former family Christmas Tradition – before Mom quit cooking)This recipe is on the package of Jimmy Dean Breakfast Sausage… we’ve modified it for a smaller batch, added extra onions & celery, and increased the Bisquick amount so that the balls are not so greasy.1 Pkgs (16 oz) Breakfast Sausage1 Cup Bisquick2 Cups (8 oz) shredded cheddar cheese1/2 Cup finely chopped onion1/2 Cup finely chopped celery½ Tsp black pepper Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. 1. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl & stir well.2. Form into 1″ balls. Place on ungreased baking sheet.3. Bake 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.4. Remove from oven; cool 5 minutes before removing from pan and set on paper towels to absorb any grease.

Like I said, I’m wrapping presents today and am in the gift giving mood! One of my favorite Christmas traditions is making Sausage Cheese Balls for Christmas morning breakfast! Brent and I will get up and pop them in the oven and then go sit on the couch to read the Christmas story from the Bible (Luke 2) and open presents together. I love Christmas morning with Brent. It’s laid back and peaceful.
